It was my editor who suggested writing a novella as a sort of prequel to Some Girls Do.  As well as introducing the character of Claire, I wanted to write a sexy story that would tie in with her blog in the novel.

However, I also wanted to avoid writing anything that would conflict with Claire’s sexual inexperience at the beginning of Some Girls Do, as it plays a crucial part in the premise for that book. So I came up with the idea of writing a story within a story. Fortunately, Claire is a writer, and the main body of the novella is an erotic story that she writes as an exercise for her creative writing class.

I only had a couple of months to write this, but I was given a lot of freedom to just let loose and have fun with it, and once I came up with the premise, it flowed quite freely and I had a lot of fun writing it. The fact that it’s only about a quarter of the length of one of my novels helped too.
